Takeuchi conceived Sailor Uranus while she was working on an article about astrology for Nakayoshi magazine. In an interview with Animedia Magazine, Takeuchi revealed that she originally intended to use Saturn as the character’s astrological sign, but when she drew her preliminary sketches she realized that Uranus would make a better choice due to its different personality from Saturn:

Sailor Neptune

Sailor Neptune is a Water Princess who wields a water staff. She is the secondary lead female protagonist of the Sailor Moon series and one of the Outer Senshi. She is loyal and protective to her friends, and she is also a skilled warrior. Neptune is the daughter of the sea god Nereus and Thetis, and she has two sisters, Amphitrite and Tethys.

When she was young, Neptune’s family was killed by Queen Beryl and her partner, King Endymion. In order to get revenge on Beryl, Neptune joins the Sailor Soldiers to find the Moon Crystal. Along the way, she befriends Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury. After defeating Beryl, Neptune returns to her home planet, Aqua Laguna.
